DC - Columbia Heights Neighborhood

thawhidol
dcgamenight is hosting another public game night at Busboys and Poets at 5th and K (Facebook Event). We meet up at random places to play boardgames, card games, and other sorts of games. We're easygoing folks, so come out and join us and play something. I haven't been to this B&P, but look for the big yellow Connect 4 board and the group of people playing games. Hope to see you there.

If you can't make it tomorrow, we are also holding a poll to vote for the next date. The poll closes tomorrow, so go vote And not every game night is public, some are held at people's home, and are private. If you want to be invited to those private game nights, join dcgamenight and DCGN Facebook Group.

SUBMISSIONS OPEN for DC Shorts Film Festival 2009 [Dec. 2nd, 2008|10:17 am]
DC - Columbia Heights Neighborhood

dcshorts
Submissions are now open for the 2009 edition of the famed DC Shorts Film Festival! Visit the updated web site at http://dcshorts.com

DC Shorts turns the spotlight on truly independent short films, created by new and established filmmakers in an era when the art of filmmaking is opening to all. We select films from every genre for our competition screenings — with a special focus on films created by metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. After each screening, filmmakers have the opportunity to speak to the audience as part of a moderated panel.

In 2008, DC Shorts reviewed more than 750 entries from around the globe. We selected 103 short films for screenings at 8 showcases during the competition weekend of September 11-14, 2008, with each show featuring an average of ten short films. Since a major focus of the event is the inclusion of filmmakers, many of the films were represented by the more than 108 filmmakers in attendance from 8 countries. More than 2,600 people attended the screenings.

DC Shorts gives ALL ENTIRES feedback -- a point which impressed MovieMaker Magazine to name us as "one of 20 festivals worth an entry fee," AND as "one of the leading film festivals" in the country.

THE EARLYBIRD DEADLINE IS FEBRUARY 15, 2009.  Submission fees go up after that date -- so enter now and save!

I look forward to seeing your new works!

- Jon Gann
 Festival Director

dcgamenight Presents: The Week of TOO MUCH GAMING!

dcgamenight wants to remind everyone that today is our first birthday. We are turning one year old, and in honor of this we are holding a game night tonight, Thursday, August 28th, at Teaism in Penn Quarter, starting around 6:30PM. If you're interested in playing all sorts of board games and card games, come on by. Look for the big yellow Connect 4 board, we will probably be on the lower level, near the koi pond. You can't miss us really, as we're a bunch of people playing games.

We'll be holding two game nights next week. Details are at the link, but here's the details for the next game night.

And, as improbable as it might seem, you cannot make any of the three upcoming game nights, then you should vote for times when you CAN make it. And to do that, we have a handy dandy poll set up. Go vote.

Everyone is welcome to join dcgamenight, and I encourage anyone who likes playing board games, card games, video games, or other types of games to do so. Also, join if you like fun, meeting people, or generally exploring the city a bit. We also have a facebook group, and sometime soon, we will have an honest to god website.

So, I hope to see everyone at one or more of these game nights. If you have any questions, I'd be happy to answer
